3 kW is the entry point for home solar in Pakistan. It's the size people ask about when they want to cut a mid-sized bill, keep fans and lights running through load-shedding, or start small on a tight budget and grow later. Searches like "3kw solar system price in Pakistan" and "3 kilowatt solar system kitne ka hai" usually come down to two real questions: is 3 kW enough for my house, and is the quote I've been given fair? This guide answers both.
The short answer
A complete 3 kW on-grid system (panels, inverter, structure, wiring and labour, no batteries) currently works out at about Rs 267,805 – 353,047. That's an estimate built from real panel and inverter listings plus a stated allowance for installation, not a quote. The live version, updated daily, is on our 3 kW system price page.
Most 3 kW buyers in Pakistan actually want a hybrid system with at least one battery, because backup during load-shedding is the main reason they're going solar. That costs more, mostly because of the battery. We cover it below.
Is 3 kW enough for your home?
A 3 kW system makes about 324 units a month on average, using 3.6 units per kW per day. You'll get more in the long sunny days of May and June and noticeably less in December and January, especially in smog or fog.
That makes 3 kW a reasonable fit if:
- Your bill is usually around that many units a month or less, outside the peak summer months.
- You mainly want to run fans, lights, a fridge, a washing machine, a TV and a router in the daytime.
- You want one inverter AC on sunny afternoons, not several.
- Your roof space or budget is limited, and you're happy to expand later.
It's probably too small if you run two or more ACs through summer, have an electric water pump, motor or geyser on daily, or your summer bills regularly go well past the units above. In that case compare the 5 kW guide and the 5 kW and 6 kW price pages.
The most reliable way to size is from your own bill. Our guide on sizing solar from your electricity bill walks through it, and the solar calculator does it from your appliances and load-shedding hours. LESCO and IESCO customers can see their bill slab by slab with the LESCO bill calculator and IESCO bill calculator.
What can a 3 kW system run?
Think of 3 kW as the peak your panels can produce in strong midday sun. In real conditions, with heat and dust, expect less than the label for most of the day. On a clear afternoon that's usually enough for a 1 to 1.5 ton inverter AC plus fans and lights, but not two ACs at once. In the morning, evening and on cloudy days, output drops and the shortfall comes from the grid or the battery.
If running an AC is the main goal, our guide on solar panels for a 1 ton or 1.5 ton AC works out how much solar and battery each size needs.
Roof space
You'll need roughly 16 to 18 square metres (about 170 to 190 sq ft) of roof that gets direct sun for most of the day. Water tanks, stair rooms, parapet walls and taller neighbouring buildings all cast shade, and shade on even one panel can pull down the output of the whole string. If your roof is crowded, an elevated frame can help. See our guide to elevated solar structure cost.
What's inside a 3 kW quotation
Break any 3 kW quote into the lines below and check each one separately.
Panels
A 3 kW system needs about 6 × 585 W panels. Modern panels currently sell at Rs 37.5–42.1 per watt, so the panels for 3 kW come to roughly Rs 131,625 – 147,947.
Divide the panel line in your quote by the total watts to get a per-watt price, then compare it with the market. A rate well above the market needs explaining. A rate well below it is a reason to check the panels are genuine before you pay. Our guides to panel price per watt and how to check original solar panels cover both. Live rates by brand are on the panel price page.
Inverter
A 3 kW system is usually paired with an inverter rated about 3 to 4 kW. Our estimate uses real listings rated close to 3 kW, which currently come to Rs 73,000 – 99,800. By type:
- 3 kW hybrid: Rs 72,000 – 99,000
- 4 kW hybrid: Rs 91,200 – 122,000
- 3 kW on-grid: current 3 kW on-grid prices
A slightly bigger inverter, such as 4 kW, can make sense if you plan to add panels later, but check the inverter's maximum PV input before you count on that. Compare models on the 3 kW inverter price page and the 4 kW page.
Structure, wiring and labour
This line covers the mounting frame, DC and AC cables, breakers, surge protection, earthing and the installation itself. We don't scrape these prices because they depend so much on the roof, so we use a planning allowance of Rs 18–30 per watt. For 3 kW that's about Rs 63,180 – 105,300.
On small systems, this is where a cheap quote often saves money in ways you can't see: thin structure channels, undersized or non-solar DC cable, a missing DC breaker or no proper earthing. Our quotation checklist lists what this part of the quote should name.
On-grid or hybrid for 3 kW?
On-grid is the cheapest way to cut your bill. The inverter runs your home from solar in the daytime and sends extra units to the grid. But it switches off when the grid goes down, so you get no power during load-shedding, even in bright sun.
Hybrid adds a battery, so the system keeps running during outages and can store daytime solar for the evening. Under net billing that matters: exported units earn only about Rs 8.13 each, while evening grid units cost your full slab rate. On a small system, using your own solar is usually worth more than selling it. Our guide to net metering vs net billing explains the numbers.
For most 3 kW homes with regular load-shedding, hybrid is the practical choice. For the full comparison, read hybrid vs on-grid inverter, and if you're buying a hybrid unit, our hybrid inverter buying guide covers what to check on the spec sheet.
What a battery adds
The common building block is a 51.2 V 100 Ah lithium (LiFePO4) battery of about 5 kWh, which currently lists at Rs 217,000 – 260,000. Many 3 kW hybrid inverters run on a 24 V battery bank instead, so check which voltage your inverter needs before you buy any battery.
One 5 kWh lithium battery gives about 4.6 kWh of usable storage. Allowing for losses, that runs a steady 500 W load (a few fans, lights, a fridge and the router) for around 8 hours. It won't run an AC through the night. If you're deciding between lithium and a cheaper lead-acid battery, see lithium vs tubular battery, which shows how to compare them by cost per unit stored. Live prices by capacity are on the lithium battery price page.
So a rough 3 kW hybrid budget is the on-grid total above, plus any extra for a hybrid inverter, plus the battery you choose.
Savings and payback
At today's mid price, our estimate for a well-sized 3 kW on-grid system is a saving of about Rs 9,412 a month, which pays back the system in ~2.7 years.
That assumes about 60% of what you generate is used in your home during the day and the rest is exported at the net billing rate. If the house is empty in the daytime you'll export more and the payback gets longer. A hybrid system costs more upfront, and its payback depends on how much you would otherwise lose to load-shedding and how much evening use the battery covers.
What a 3 kW price usually leaves out
Ask whether your quote includes these, because our estimate doesn't:
- Batteries, covered above.
- Elevated structures. A raised frame costs more than a standard frame, depending on height and steel. Ask for it as a separate line.
- Net billing fees and the green meter. Applying for net billing involves DISCO fees and a bidirectional meter. Ask who handles the paperwork and whether it's in the price.
- Your connection and sanctioned load. Most 3 kW homes are on single-phase, and a single-phase inverter is normal. Check that your sanctioned load can accommodate the system before applying for net billing. If you're unsure about phases, see three-phase vs single-phase solar.
Common questions
3 kW solar system kitne ka hai? Today's on-grid estimate is Rs 267,805 – 353,047 without batteries. A hybrid system with a battery costs more. The live 3 kW page updates daily.
3 kW solar se AC chal sakta hai? On a sunny afternoon, usually one 1 to 1.5 ton inverter AC alongside fans and lights. Not two ACs, and not at night without a large battery.
3 kW system kitne units banata hai? About 324 units a month on average, more in summer and less in winter.
Can I upgrade a 3 kW system later? Often yes, if the inverter has spare PV input and the roof has space. Choose the inverter with that in mind, and keep the same panel type and wattage when you add more.
Can I buy it on installments? Some banks finance home solar through approved vendors. Our guide to solar panels on installments explains what to check.
