Solar Calculator Pakistan — How Many Solar Panels Do I Need?

Pick the appliances you use (fans, ACs, lights, fridge) and we'll work out the solar system size, number of panels, inverter and batteries your home needs, what it costs at today's dealer prices and how much it could save on your bill. No technical knowledge needed, and it's also in Urdu.

Step 1 of 4 · Your home

What kind of home is this?

Pick the closest one. We'll fill in typical appliances that you can change on the next screen.

How the calculator works

We add up the units each appliance uses in a day (watts × hours, allowing for fridges and ACs that switch on and off), divide by the 3.6 units a day that 1 kW of panels makes in Pakistan, and round up. The inverter is sized for the appliances that run together plus the start-up kick of motors, and batteries for the hours you need backup. Full formulas are on our methodology page.

Frequently asked questions

How many solar panels do I need for a 1 ton AC?

A normal 1 ton AC running about 8 hours on a summer day uses roughly 7.7 units, which needs about 2.5 kW of panels (5 panels of 585 W). A 1 ton inverter AC uses about 5.6 units for the same hours, so about 2 kW (4 panels) is enough. Add your fans, lights and fridge on top.

Can solar run an AC in Pakistan?

Yes. During the day an on-grid or hybrid system can run an AC directly from the panels, and an inverter AC is much easier on solar because it draws less power once the room is cool. Running an AC all night on batteries is possible but needs a large, expensive battery bank, so most families use WAPDA power at night.

How much solar do I need for a 3 marla, 5 marla or 10 marla house?

It depends on your appliances, not the plot size. As a rough guide using our typical homes: a small 2-room home (often 3 marla) with fans, a cooler and a fridge needs about 2 kW; a 3–4 room home (often 5 marla) with one 1.5 ton AC needs about 6 kW; and a 5+ room home (often 10 marla) with three ACs needs about 13 kW. Use the calculator above for your own home.

What is a “unit” and how much does 1 kW of solar make?

A unit is what your electricity bill counts (1 unit = 1 kWh). In Pakistan, 1 kW of solar panels makes about 3.6 units a day on average after losses, a bit more in summer and less in winter or on cloudy days.

Do I need batteries?

Only if you want power during load-shedding or have no WAPDA connection. To cut your bill, an on-grid system uses solar during the day and WAPDA at night. Under NEPRA's 2026 net billing rules, extra daytime units sent to the grid earn a credit (currently about Rs 8 a unit). That is much less than you pay for grid units, so the more solar you use yourself, the more you save.

Where do the costs come from?

Panel, inverter and battery prices come from the live dealer listings we track on this site. Structure, wiring and labour use our planning figure of Rs 18–30 per watt. If we don't have fresh prices for a part, the calculator says so instead of guessing.
