Hybrid vs on-grid inverter

On-grid inverters feed solar power to the home and the grid and are required for net metering, but switch off during load-shedding. Hybrid inverters can also charge a battery and keep the house running during outages. Size the inverter close to your panel array (e.g. a 6 kW inverter for ~6–7 kW of panels).

Frequently asked questions

Which inverter size do I need?

Match the inverter's rated kW to your panel array and peak load. A typical home with 2 ACs uses a 6–8 kW hybrid inverter; a 10 kW system usually pairs with a 10 kW inverter.

Can I use net metering with a hybrid inverter?

Yes, many hybrid inverters support grid export. Your DISCO must approve the inverter model and you'll need a bidirectional (green) meter.

Why do inverter prices vary between dealers?

Differences in warranty terms (official vs grey import), included accessories (WiFi dongle, CT), stock and exchange rate all affect the final price.
